Year 5 - 2016 - Season 6 Heading South - Hamble England to Cartagena Spain
Seasons Sailing: 16/4/16 - 16/10/16 Distance sailed 2110nm
Starting in Hamble we headed across to the Channel Islands taking in Guernsey but opting wisely to visit Jersey by Ferry. Onto the beautiful port of St Malo France before poking slowly south along the coastal region of Brittany to Brest. Enjoyed the islands of Iles De Glennan and Belle Ile before taking time out for some land touring into the Loire Valley from La Rochelle. Not so taken with Port Medoc we were happy to arrive in Hondarribia Spain in time to see the Bastille Fireworks across the Bay in France. Blown away by the beauty of the Basque company and pleased to have met Askari in Gijon our cruising agenda slowed down. Around the corner into A Corona where the boat numbers finally increased, we were back on the more travelled path. By the time we reach Porto in Portugal we had eaten our quota of Pulpo and were happy to try some different cuisine. The headlands of Lagos were stunning as was the anchorage of Faro that for 2017 will be our banner. Cadiz was an unexpected delight of a town particularly with its easy access to Seville. Finally around the corner the last run for our season took us through the familiar territory of Gibraltar, Malaga then into our winter port of Cartagena.
We had intended to sail further but Cartagena just had the right feel. So this would be home for winter of 2016.
