The final leg of our 2022 sail

Who ever would have thought we could organise to be on the same island again

Wednesday 21st September Mykonos to Finiikas Bay Syros.

After a spirited sail we were back in the familiar harbour of Finiikas. Ironically Paula and Michael had left Paros and were in Ermoupouli. So a catch up over lunch at Baobab was soon arranged.

Thursday 22nd Finikas to Lavrio Marina to Sounion

It was a run back to Olympic Marina to collect parts before returning to Sounion bay where Andrew tackled the parts install and Lee took time to recover having tested positive to Covid.

Monday 26th September Sounion to Aliki Beach south of Poros

We had hope to make a run to the island of Amorgos in the south east but the effects of Covid were a little lingering and it was decided the best option was to take the time to meaner around on the Pelopenese in the protected bays.

Aliki Beach on the southern end of Poros was a pretty anchorage the ruins of a fortification on an island outcrop and a taverna ashore that would be worth exploration if one wasn’t isolating.

Thursday 29th Aliki Beach to Arvanitas Nafplio

Finally feeling better and over the quarantining onboard it was nice to wander the streets of Nafplio. The fortification 999 steps to the castle were calling to be conquered but that was definitely determined best  to be left for a return visit.

Saturday 1st October Nafplion to Porto Cheli

Though not the place that you would choose to swim off the back of the boat given having been spoilt by some many beautiful clear water anchorage Porot Cheli was a large protected harbour surrounded by a quaint township that had everything you could possible need.
We took the dinghy in one evening and ate at the restaurant Rozos – best lamb chops we had had in ages as was the service from two gentlemen who were definitely brothers.

Monday 3rd October – Porto Cheli to Sounion

With another Meltimi on its was we headed back to Sounion where we met with Paul who was sailing for a few days with a friend from England. Though we still had several days that we could use to sail it proved a good decision to return to the marina on the Tuesday as winds began to build to 40 plus knots.

Lunch on Katherine and Fender patrol with Rose and Paul

On Wednesday 5th Rose and Paul joined us onboard for lunch. Our intention had been to leave after their visit for Athens but wayward charter boats careening down the channels having to be fendered off put an end to that idea very quickly. Far better to be onboard then away when chaos is happening in high winds.

Katherine in her berth for the winter season

So after a great introduction to the Cyclades the season had come to an end. Katherine was in her pen tucked up in Lavrio Marina to be kept under the care of the team from X-Yachting Greece until our return next season.

We arrived at the beginning of the season with little expectations but have to say the Cyclades have really impressed. We are looking forward to discovering more great anchorages and islands next year.
